AC/DC Lane Celebrates One-Year Anniversary
October 27, 2005Australia's The Age has issued the following report:
Today marks the first anniversary of AC/DC Lane, and to celebrate, Australian rock chicks Alex Jackson and SWEET REVENGE will be performing a tribute tonight at Cherry Bar, AC/DC Lane, with DJs playing the band's songs all night, and a barbecue from 5pm.
When ROSE TATTOO were in town recently, Sticky got a chance to ask Bon Scott's old mate Angry Anderson what he thought about the honour: "It's kind of like Mick Jagger getting knighted," he said.
"If I was knighted, I would have given it back. Or you would like to think you would, because you don't need that shit. Bon's credibility lies in the fact that he was a rock 'n' roll outlaw. If they called it Bon Lane, OK, but the councillors were probably thinking about the time when they got a root to 'You Shook me All Night Long'.
"No offence to Brian [Johnson], who is a great rock singer in his own right, but Bon was a very special animal. He epitomised the Aussie larrikin, who don't really mean any harm but you don't f--- with them. There aren't too many around any more who are brave enough to be politically incorrect or socially dysfunctional, to publicly portray the classic Aussie persona."
Anderson said that in the 1970s U.S. labels wanted to sign ROSE TATTOO, but the band refused to tone down their act. "They wanted us to be like Rod Stewart," Anderson said. "They thought us and AC/DC were hoodlums. Many years later they accepted it with MÖTLEY CRÜE and GUNS N' ROSES."
